Care and Fitting Tips

When fitting our ignition leads, we recommend you adhere to the following simple guidelines:

i) Always wait until the engine is cool before attempting to fit the ignition leads. This avoids the risk of accidently touching hot parts of the engine and allows any residual electrical energy in the lead set to dissipate. Ensure the engine ignition is turned off. Protect yourself from any possible exposure to battery acid and other contaminants.

ii) Remove any oil, dirt and moisture from around the spark plug lead area with a dry, clean cloth.

iii) Always pull on the ignition lead boot to remove the lead set, never the cable as this may result in damage to the cable or the connection.

iv) Do not remove all the old leads at once as this could lead to incorrect re-fitting. We advise you remove the old ignition leads one at a time, starting with the shortest first, and replace the leads one at a time in the same order after further cleaning the sparkplugs and distributor (or modular coil, if appropriate). Ensure the terminals 'snap' on to the sparkplugs. Do not force as this may lead to damage to the lead set or other engine components. Route all wires as before, using existing clamps or clips. Re-tighten as appropriate.

v) Cables should not be in contact with any heat source, such as exhaust manifold or turbocharger and should be secured away from all moving parts.

vi) To prevent premature degradation of your new lead set, cables should not touch any metal part of the engine or under-bonnet area.

vii) Start the vehicle and ensure the engine is running correctly before driving. Do not continue to run the engine if there is any evidence of a miss-fire as this may lead to contamination of the exhaust catalyst. If miss-firing occurs, re-check the fitting of the leads. If this does not resolve the problem, please contact us.
