Care and Fitting Tips

When fitting our ignition leads, we recommend you adhere to the following guidelines:

i) Wait until the engine is cool before fitting the ignition leads. This avoids the risk of accidently touching a hot part of the engine and allows any residual electrical energy in the lead sets to dissipate.

ii) Clean off any oil, dirt and moisture around the sparkplug lead area with a dry, clean cloth.

iii) Always pull on the ignition lead boots to remove the lead set. Do not pull on the cable as this could damage the lead set.

iv) Remove the ignition leads one at a time, starting with the shortest first, and replace the leads one at a time after further cleaning of the sparkplugs and distributor (or modular coil, if appropriate). Do not remove all the leads at once as this could lead to incorrect re-fitting.

v) After fitting the ignition leads, ensure the cables are clipped into any fitting clips or rails as used by the original lead set.

vi) Cables should not be in contact with any heat source, such as exhaust manifold or turbocharger and should be secured away from any moving parts.

vii) To prevent premature degradation, cables should not touch any metal part of the engine or under - bonnet area.

viii) Start the vehicle and ensure the engine is running correctly before driving. Do not continue to run the vehicle if there is any evidence of a miss-fire as contamination of the exhaust catalyst will occur. Re-check the fitting of the leads. If this does not resolve the problem, please contact us.
